What We Know

Wow! A head-spinning week in the world of UK sports.

I'll admit it. I put my head in the sand concerning Billy for a long time. As long ago as June '07, people in the know were making warning sounds. Former players were talking about really good staff members who were gone, gone, gone from UK. No one was allowed in the building for practices or workouts. (Why wouldn't you want Chuck Hayes to work out with your team in the summer? Could it be he wouldn't approve of what he saw? I'm just sayin'.)
Being a single girl, I was initially intrigued by The Bachelor. But whenever I would ask, "Can I meet the new coach" my question was met with, "He doesn't like to meet people" or "You don't want to." Hmm.
But who wants to think the coach is a jerk? I finally met him. He was not unpleasant, just seemingly uncomfortable. I will say his eye contact was akin to what I imagine REM sleep to look like.
The tales of this year have sent me over the edge. I will not listen to anyone who says Billy was fired for wins and losses. Sure, he would still be here if we were 30-3. It's just that I don't think we were ever going to get there. From what I understand--and the information is from people who know--our players were leaving if he stayed. Winning wasn't coming. His treatment of our players wasn't anything we should desire for a boy wearing a Kentucky uniform. I will not stand for it.
Now...moving on. Megan Calipari's facebook status says: "My dad never said anything bad about the people of Memphis. Please show him the same respect." Take that for what you will. I'm not sure about JC. I love all the winning. And the Pitino rivalry. I'm a little worried about this Worldwide Wes character. Sandy Bell will have her hands full. (Just google ole Wes. I don't have the words to explain him. He's a sports agent close to Calipari. Sketchy.)
We should know something today. If not John Calipari, then we'll move on. Do we wait for Tom Izzo, or did his win yesterday cement his stay in East Lansing? The drama!!
