Tailgates and Tervises

UK v. UT, 2009
It's now three weeks and change until the first UK game of the season. Not to sound like an alarmist, y'all, but do you have your tailgating gear in order? There's still plenty of time, but you probably need to hurry if you want to order stuff online. There's nothing I hate worse than knowing that the finishing touch -- the very piece that will make my party complete -- is sitting at a FedEx sorting facility until the next Monday.

Just so we don't fall into that terrible pattern of late orders, the brilliant people at Tervis Tumbler are running a special on collegiate patterns this week. Just use the code SCHOOL at checkout, and any of your UK-themed cups will be 20% off. (I suppose any other collegiate pattern would be discounted as well, but I doubt the Kentucky Girls' readers are as interested in those...)

My Tervis Tumbler collection
I think, by now, most everyone knows that SEC tailgating and Tervis Tumblers go hand-in-hand. Or, cup-in-hand, if you'll forgive the terrible pun. Now, if you aren't using Tervis Tumblers for your tailgating (and general beverage-drinking) needs, you absolutely should be. They are one of the few products I've ever encountered that absolutely, 100% live up to all of their marketing and user hype.  They keep cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot.  End of story. No disclaimers, no special conditions. The cups have a double-walled construction of a high quality polycarbonate. Now, I've studiously avoided science classes my whole life, so I don't know what "polycarbonate" means. I sure do know, however, that these cups work perfectly. I suggest the 24-oz. Big-T: it's the perfect size for a serious bourbon-and-coke when you're tailgating, and makes a perfect sweet tea glass for everyday use. I also like the 16-oz., I have that in a pink version of my Junior League's logo; it's the perfect size for a water/juice glass, fits a little better in my car's drink holder, and is known around here as my Barbie cup!

Did I mention that Tervis Tumblers have a lifetime guarantee? They're pretty much the perfect product. I bought my brother a Bengals Big-T for his birthday. He was appreciative, but didn't realize its intense awesomeness for a few weeks. Then, one day, he called me to say "this thing is magical. I went to sleep for several hours. I awoke to find that none of the ice had melted in my drink." That's been my experience as well, even in sweltering summers like the one we're currently experiencing.

As we prepare for tailgate, the biggest question for me is: which Tervis Tumbler do I want to try out during the collegiate sale? I have several in the classic interlocking UK design. However, I do love the Wildcat pattern...

Remember when this guy created such a stir, and had to be immediately redesigned? Yeah, that was uncomfortable. It's still a cute logo, though...

My absolute favorite, however, is the new Collegiate Vault pattern.

It's the classic Seventies and Eighties logo that we all grew up with. J'adore.

The Tervis Tumbler collegiate promotion ends Friday, August 13th, which sounds a little ominous. Creepy dates notwithstanding, these will make your tailgate perfect.

Which pattern do y'all like best?

{This post is solely my personal opinion. The Kentucky Girls did not receive promotional consideration from Tervis Tumbler.}
